New project: momento

With "Shattered Magic" on a hiatus, I feel like revisiting the concept I had in, say, 2013. This particular story requires a more mature and calm mind, and I feel I can pull it off now.

So here is our protagonist, Dakota (he/him, they/them)! Dakota is terminally ill, but he has a mission to fulfill and an enemy he made a pact with. The world of "momento" is based on an absence of judgment and vengeance. For illnesses, human beings are disposable and replaceable. They don't make any differences or exceptions, and neither should those who called upon them…

Humans began to celebrate the ultimate defeat of death—they are just one step away from immortality. But, in fact, it's a result of totally and completely f*cking up the natural order of things. Terminally ill and gravely wounded people now suffer much, much longer because of huge queues for, well, dying. So they will die, just later than they actually should. With that said, no immortality for you, not now, not ever. However, order should be restored by any means.

Illnesses try to give more space for Death to breathe by withdrawing their forces, but not everyone withdraws willingly. Those who decide to stay, ignoring the call of their master, should be terminated. Unfortunately, when an agent of illness attaches to a human being, it can only be terminated by human hands. That's where pacts with humans come in handy.

The illness forms the pact with humans, who called upon them out of pure despair. The thing is: being busy as they are now, illnesses are not genies to grant wishes for death. Not to mention the exhausted state of the Death. Dying is a luxury, and this luxury must be earned.

Magical boys/girls meet cyberpunk meets horror. I want to work on this project in an anime style (the cuter the better; I will explore more) for an uncanny feeling and to get closer to the Mahou Shoujo style. Just wait until I explore a mix of anime and art nouveau and its nature-leaning concept not just in flowers but in gore.

In general, "momento" is a rather grim story, but I hope to make it one without unneeded preaching and moralization. In the end, all of us have just one life to live, and just living may be the best choice one could possibly make.
